Robert “Bobby” Benedict, a 48-year-old White/Caucasian male, died on August 1, 2025, after a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. The fatal call came in late that Friday afternoon, around 4:35 p.m., when emergency crews were sent to the area of East 9th Street and Benton Boulevard, near Catholic Charities and the Grace United Community Ministries Food Distribution Center.
When officers and first responders arrived, they were directed nearby to the intersection of 8th Street and Benton Boulevard, where Benedict was found suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Benedict was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the shooting appeared to have followed a fight or altercation involving multiple people, turning what began as a confrontation into a deadly act of violence in a public area surrounded by community service organizations. Detectives remained in the neighborhood after the shooting, canvassing for witnesses, surveillance footage, and physical evidence as they worked to reconstruct what happened before the gunfire.
In the immediate aftermath, Kansas City police said one person was taken into custody pending further investigation.
