In the Northland neighborhood of Kansas City, a sense of unease settled over the community on the afternoon of April 23, 2025. What began as an ordinary day was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 17-year-old Charles Sanders. The young African American man was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home on Northeast 75th Court around 2:15 p.m. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
