In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 23, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Edward Allen Buford was tragically cut short in Riverdale, Georgia. The young father of two was fatally shot inside an apartment building at the Villages on the River Apartments on Church Street at approximately 6:53 a.m. a single gunshot wound to the head ended his life, leaving his loved ones to grapple with a senseless act of violence.
The Riverdale Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. As officers processed the scene, they discovered a live bullet in a nearby grassy area, a stark piece of evidence in their quest for answers. While a motive was not immediately clear, investigators suspected the shooting may have been connected to drug activity. Neighbors in the ordinarily peaceful apartment complex were unsettled by the event, expressing a desire for a greater police presence to ensure the safety of the community's children.
The investigation swiftly led to a person of interest. On Tuesday, May 26, 2015, the Clayton County Sheriff's Office apprehended 25-year-old Deangelo Sanchez Knott in connection with the fatal shooting. It was revealed that both Buford and Knott were residents of the same apartment complex. Knott was subsequently charged with murder. Upon being booked into the Clayton County jail, he faced an additional charge of crossing the guard line with either drugs or a weapon. He was held without bond as the legal proceedings against him commenced.
