On a tragic Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Missouri, the community was shaken by the violent death of 35-year-old Jessica Parnell. On August 24, 2025, emergency services responded to a house fire at 3307 West Lombard Street. Inside the burning home, firefighters discovered the bodies of Jessica, a young teenager, and a man, all with apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators from the Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit quickly determined the incident was a double murder-suicide.
The investigation revealed that Ryan Parnell, 40, had shot and killed Jessica Parnell and 13-year-old Aaliyah Perkins. Following the shootings, Ryan Parnell set the house on fire before turning the gun on himself, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
