On an autumn evening in Riverdale, Georgia, the grounds of Riverdale High School became the scene of a fatal shooting. On October 26, 2020, 28-year-old Eyton Lamar Edwards was shot and killed in the school's parking lot. Although the incident occurred on school property, authorities confirmed that neither Edwards nor the individuals involved were students or staff at the high school, and no one from the school was harmed.
The investigation into Edwards's death quickly identified two individuals believed to be responsible. Video surveillance from the scene captured an older, silver two-door BMW arriving at the high school. A male passenger, later identified as Marvin Elliot Germain, exited the vehicle, approached Edwards, and took a bag he was carrying. Germain then shot Edwards multiple times with a. 380-caliber handgun before fleeing across the street with the stolen bag.
Based on the investigation, the Clayton County Sheriff's Office issued warrants for Germain's arrest on charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and armed robbery. The driver of the BMW, identified as 25-year-old Imani Burke-Cox, was later apprehended. Authorities allege that Burke-Cox drove her boyfriend, Germain, to and from the scene of the shooting. She was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of being a party to the commission of a crime. Burke-Cox was taken into custody after deputies, who had her mother's home under surveillance, stopped a car in which she was a passenger, believing she was attempting to leave the county. As of late 2020, Marvin Elliot Germain remained at large and was considered armed and dangerous.
