In the late summer of 2025, a quiet suburban street in Hanover, Maryland, became the scene of a targeted and fatal act of violence. On the afternoon of Sunday, September 14th, 35-year-old Deandre Simms had just left his residence and was inside his vehicle when he was suddenly ambushed. An assailant fired multiple shots into his car, inflicting life-threatening injuries before fleeing the scene.
The tranquil neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire, and Anne Arundel County police were summoned to the area of Fredericksburg Road and Taylor's Hill Lane around 12:30 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Deandre Simms suffering from several gunshot wounds. They immediately administered lifesaving aid until paramedics arrived to rush him to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. For nine days, he fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe. On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Deandre Simms succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly determined that it was not a random act of violence, but a targeted attack. Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department worked diligently to identify the person responsible for the ambush. Their efforts led them to a suspect, 29-year-old Marquis Davis of Laurel. An arrest warrant was issued, and Davis was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses.
