In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Lexington, Kentucky, tragedy struck Edwin Haddix, a 42-year-old man. Just before midnight on August 10, 2025, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Bryan Station Road following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Haddix suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead on August 11, 2025.
The Fayette County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from the multiple gunshots he sustained.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Keaira Pennie, a 30-year-old woman, was taken into custody shortly after the incident and has been charged with murder. According to police, two witnesses identified Pennie as the individual who shot Haddix. Detectives testified that the shooting occurred in a driveway as Haddix was walking into a home. An autopsy revealed that he had been shot four times in the back. Investigators found six shell casings at the scene that were matched to a gun belonging to Pennie.
During a preliminary hearing, a detective stated that a dispute and an 'intimate relationship' were part of the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting. Pennie, who has no prior criminal history, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Her bond was set at $150,000, and a judge found probable cause to forward the case to a grand jury for further consideration of criminal charges.
Edwin Preeon Haddix, born on March 28, 1983, was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and had attended Transylvania University. He was a commercial truck driver for United Parcel Services. He is remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, and son who brought joy to every gathering. His death marked the 16th homicide in Lexington for the year.
