In the early morning hours of April 7, 2021, the life of 35-year-old Lowell Anthony Washington of Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short in a burst of violence. A Black male, Washington was in an apartment in the 1800 block of Dalton Court in Lexington when gunfire erupted around 5 a.m. Responding to reports of shots fired, Lexington Police arrived at a grim scene.
Inside the apartment, officers found Washington deceased, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The Fayette County Coroner's office pronounced him dead at 5:59 a.m. The incident, which was quickly classified as a homicide, also left two other individuals with non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
In the immediate aftermath, the Lexington Police Department began an investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. Despite their efforts and the initial shock that rippled through the community, details about what led to the shooting remained scarce.
