In the late summer of 2020, the life of 17-year-old Micheal Proctor was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. On the night of August 21st, the young man, a former football player at Frederick Douglass High School, was found fatally wounded. Proctor, a male, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was discovered in the street at the intersection of North Broadway and McClain Drive.
The investigation into the death of the teenager, who was born on October 15, 2002, led police to
another Lexington teen, Elijah Adams, who was 16 years old at the time of the incident. According to court documents, both Proctor and Adams, along with another individual identified only as 'T.L.', had been together at a block party earlier that evening. Adams, who was driving the vehicle they were in, told authorities that 'T.L.' unexpectedly shot Proctor and then pushed him out of the car.
Initially charged with murder, Elijah Adams later entered into a plea agreement. In March 2023, Adams, then 19, pleaded guilty to the amended charge of facilitation to murder. Following his plea, he was sentenced to five years in prison. Having already served a significant amount of time in custody since the shooting, he was granted probation. His attorney and the prosecutor had engaged in a court-ordered mediation with Micheal Proctor's family before the final sentence was determined.
