In the spring of 2021, the life of Hayden Alexander Nash, a 17-year-old Black/African American male from Lexington, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Sunday, April 18th, police were called to an apartment building on Alumni Drive with a report of a shooting. There, they found Hayden with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:30 p.m.
Hayden was a tenth-grade student at The Learning Center who had a passion for writing music, drawing, fishing, and
playing the guitar. He was remembered by his family as an outstanding young man with a big heart who loved his family and friends. His sudden death left his parents, Talina and Michael Nash, along with his siblings and extended family, to grapple with a profound loss that deeply affected the Lexington community.
The investigation into Hayden's death quickly led to an arrest. A 14-year-old male was taken into custody and faced several serious charges, including second-degree manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, and being a minor in possession of a handgun. The case took another turn when a woman was also arrested in connection with the shooting. She was charged with second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and tampering with evidence, accused of helping her son, the 14-year-old suspect, by hiding the firearm used in the incident.
