In the late summer of 2016, the life of Victor Villagomez-Duarte, a 24-year-old Hispanic man, was cut short in a violent encounter in Lexington, Kentucky. On the morning of September 5th, outside a Microtel Inn on Buena Vista Road, Villagomez-Duarte was shot in the right shoulder. He was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before succumbing to his injuries on September 7, 2016.
The incident, which was later determined to be a robbery gone wrong during an illegal drug transaction, triggered a swift and thorough investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of three suspects. The first to be apprehended were Destiny A. Huff, a 22-year-old woman from the nearby town of Nicholasville, and 28-year-old Daniel J. Glasscock. Huff was with Villagomez-Duarte at the time of the shooting and initially presented herself as a witness. However, police uncovered phone records showing that she had been in contact with the other suspects both before and after the fatal shooting. A witness identified Glasscock as the driver of the vehicle involved, noting a distinctive 'D' tattoo on his face.
A few days later, the third suspect, 28-year-old Alonzo K. Ragland, was taken into custody. All three individuals were charged with murder and first-degree robbery in connection with Villagomez-Duarte's death. It was revealed that all three suspects had prior criminal records; Huff and Glasscock were on probation, and Ragland was on parole at the time of the incident. The arrests of Huff, Glasscock, and Ragland brought a resolution to the case, which authorities marked as cleared by arrest.
