In the early evening of September 12, 2022, emergency services responded to a call in the 500 block of West Sixth Street in Lexington, Kentucky, where they found 22-year-old Doricky Juran Harris Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The initial police response treated the case as a homicide, launching an investigation into the circumstances that led to the young man's death at the Coolavin Apartments.
Investigators began to piece together the events of that evening. Evidence was collected at the apartment building where Harris was found, and detectives soon identified a suspect. Their attention turned to Bobby Hubbard, whose distinctive vehicle was captured on surveillance footage arriving at the apartment complex shortly before the shooting and leaving soon after. When questioned, Hubbard admitted to being at the scene, even identifying himself in the surveillance video, claiming he had been invited there by a woman.
The investigation continued, and approximately three weeks after the shooting, a significant break in the case occurred. Hubbard was located in northern Kentucky in possession of a handgun. Forensic analysis of the firearm confirmed that it matched the shell casings recovered from the scene of Doricky Harris's murder. Following this discovery, an arrest warrant was issued for Hubbard. On January 21, 2023, he was apprehended by the Hattiesburg Police Department. Hubbard was then extradited to Lexington and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, where he was formally charged with murder and held on a $750,000 bond.
