In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Washington, D.C., the sound of gunfire shattered the calm on a residential street. On August 5, 2025, at approximately 11:19 p.m., 29-year-old Devonta Bazemore, a male resident of Northwest, D.C., was shot and killed in the 1800 block of U Street, Southeast, in the Anacostia neighborhood.
