In the early morning hours of September 19, 2015, the life of 22-year-old Deontray Ingram, a Black male from Southeast Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. Just after 4 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE. Upon arrival, they discovered Ingram suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the shooting did not immediately yield a motive, leaving family and the community searching for
answers. Known to some by the nickname "Fat Boy," Ingram's death was a sudden and violent loss. His family announced funeral services to be held on September 26, 2015, at the House of Praise in Northeast Washington, D.C., where friends and loved ones would gather to mourn.
For months, the case remained under investigation. Then, on January 1, 2016, a breakthrough was announced. The D.C. police arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel Beasley in connection with Ingram's death. Beasley, who had no fixed address, was charged with second-degree murder while armed. He was apprehended on a warrant, bringing a measure of progress to the investigation, though the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting were not publicly released at the time of the arrest.
