On the evening of Friday, March 21, 2025, in the quiet community of Ebony, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Jakwon Andre Bullock was tragically cut short. The young Black / African American man was in the side parking lot of the Ebony General Store at approximately 8:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted. When deputies from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jakwon Andre Bullock was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, identified as 19-year-old Dakota Macon Briskey of Brodnax, sustained serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. He was medically evacuated to a trauma center for treatment. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted attack. The initial investigation pointed towards a gray or silver 2016 Kia four-door sedan with a California license plate, 9JRB555, and damage to the front bumper as being connected to the incident.
In the weeks that followed, the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office worked diligently to identify those responsible for Bullock's death and Briskey's injuries. On April 1, authorities announced that they had issued warrants for three individuals. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Thomas Antonio Deans of Emporia, 19-year-old Za'ydn Armon Stith of Prince George, and 23-year-old Charmaine Moody Wiggins of Petersburg. The warrants were for the murder of Jakwon Andre Bullock and the malicious wounding of Dakota Macon Briskey.
A coordinated effort involving the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Investigative Division, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Greensville County Sheriff's Office led to the apprehension of all three suspects. On Monday, May 5, Za'ydn Armon Stith and Charmaine Moody Wiggins were arrested without incident. A few days later, on Thursday, May 8, Thomas Antonio Deans was taken into custody at a residence in Jarrett, located in Greensville County, bringing the manhunt to a close.
