In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Antioch, Tennessee, 23-year-old Sulaiman Murshed was with a companion inside a vehicle at the 300 Hickory Apartments on Hickory Hollow Place. It was around 10 p.m. on January 14, 2025, when the stillness of the evening was abruptly broken by the sound of gunfire. The vehicle, occupied by Murshed and a 24-year-old man, became a target, and in the chaos that ensued, both men were struck by bullets.
Despite being wounded, the 24-year-old driver managed to navigate the car away from the immediate danger, driving to the 1600 block of Antioch Pike. There, he stopped and sought help from people leaving a local business, desperately asking for a ride to the hospital. Both he and Murshed were transported to Southern Hills Medical Center for treatment. While the driver was listed in stable condition, Sulaiman Murshed succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Homicide detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department began an investigation into the fatal shooting. While the motive was not definitively established, authorities indicated that they were exploring the possibility of the shooting being drug-related. Investigators planned to interview the surviving victim as soon as his medical condition permitted to gather more information about the events that transpired at the apartment complex.
As of the initial reports, law enforcement had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the homicide. The investigation was described as ongoing, with detectives pursuing leads to determine who was responsible for the gunfire that ended Sulaiman Murshed's life.
