On the evening of January 20, 2025, law enforcement officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residential neighborhood following reports of a shooting. Just after 7:30 p.m., police arrived at a home near the intersection of East 56th Street and Westridge Road in the southeastern part of the city. Upon their arrival, they discovered the victim, identified as Amauri Holland-Williams, a Black 18-year-old male, lying in the front yard of the property.
He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and several witnesses at the scene were already attempting to render aid to him before first responders took over life-saving measures.
Emergency medical services transported Holland-Williams from the scene to a nearby hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead several hours later at the medical facility. The incident marked the 11th homicide recorded in Kansas City for the year 2025. Detectives and crime scene personnel remained at the location to process evidence and interview potential witnesses to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal gunfire.
