In the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2025, a gathering in Kansas City, Missouri, turned tragic, leaving one man dead and another injured. Calvin Bushnell, a 40-year-old Black man, was fatally shot at a residence on Elmwood Avenue near 31st Street. The Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:45 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bushnell suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
This incident marked the first homicide of the year in the city.
Another adult male was also injured during the shooting and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that a number of people were at the home for a New Year's Eve gathering before the shooting occurred. Authorities have been working to determine the circumstances that led to the gunfire.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and police have not publicly identified any suspects. Homicide detectives are actively investigating the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS Hotline. Calvin L. Bushnell Sr. was born on September 20, 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri.
