In the heart of a summer afternoon on Sunday, August 23, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace of a Kansas City, Missouri apartment complex, leaving a tragic scene in its wake. When the echoes of the shots faded, 21-year-old Sabrae E. Morris and 19-year-old Raul Lara-Delgado were found fatally wounded in the parking lot of the complex located in the 2000 block of Wheeling Avenue.
A third man, who had been driving the vehicle the three were in or around, was also struck by bullets but survived and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Responding to a "sound of gunshots" call around 12:45 p.m., Kansas City police officers discovered a grim tableau. One of the young men was found in the passenger seat of a vehicle, while the other was located just outside of it. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but sadly, both Morris and Lara-Delgado were pronounced deceased right there in the parking lot.
