In the early evening of February 12, 2026, the life of 25-year-old Terrion M. Johnson, a Black male from Kansas City, Missouri, was tragically cut short by gun violence. The events unfolded around 5:30 p.m. when the Kansas City Police Department received calls reporting the sound of gunshots in the area of 20th Street and Monroe Avenue.
Subsequent calls to emergency services reported a man down in a wooded area within a series of vacant lots in the 2000 block of Monroe Avenue.
Upon their arrival, police officers discovered Johnson unresponsive, having sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the officers who rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived, Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by homicide detectives suggested that the initial shooting occurred on 20th Street, between Askew and Monroe Avenues. It is believed that after being shot, Johnson ran southward into the vacant lots where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators began an immediate investigation, canvassing the neighborhood for any potential witnesses and collecting evidence from the area.
