In the late afternoon of July 10, 2025, a violent altercation erupted on the streets of south Kansas City, Missouri, specifically near the intersection of East 118th Terrace and Winchester Avenue. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the scene just after 4:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds lying in the roadway.
One of the victims was identified as 29-year-old Keilan Arquil Dobbs Sr., a male resident of the area.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts attempted by patrol officers and emergency medical services, Dobbs succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, identified in court documents as Jayshia Hicks, was found with serious injuries and was hastily transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators determined that the incident began as an argument among a group of individuals in front of an apartment complex. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, which ultimately led to a firearm being drawn and discharged.
Authorities later identified a suspect in connection with the homicide. Prosecutors in Jackson County charged K'Von Dewayne Goetz with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Court records indicate that Goetz allegedly fired shots at a red Hyundai Elantra during the disturbance, striking both Dobbs and Hicks. The investigation revealed that the parties involved likely knew one another, though the specific motive for the initial argument was not immediately released to the public.
