In the early hours of October 26, 2014, Ronald Eugene Shelton Jr., a 39-year-old Black male, was walking near 40th and Pennsylvania in Kansas City, Missouri. Known to his friends and family as 'Ronnie,' he was heading towards the popular Westport area. An exchange of words with an individual would tragically cut his life short.
Following the verbal dispute, the suspect brandished a firearm and opened fire on Shelton.
In a terrifying escalation of violence, a second individual also began shooting at him. The two gunmen then fled the scene, escaping in a white Pontiac Bonneville that was driven by a third accomplice. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Ronald Shelton succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Shelton's murder remains open, and authorities have been seeking information from the public to bring those responsible to justice. The case is considered a cold case, and details have been circulated in the hopes that new leads will emerge. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the identities of the three individuals involved in his death are still unknown.
