In the late hours of a Saturday night in Camden, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire pierced the air, forever altering the lives of two families. On March 29, 2025, a ShotSpotter activation alerted Camden County Police to the 600 block of Elm Street at approximately 10:54 p.m. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a young man, 21-year-old Francisco Benavides of Pennsauken, suffering from gunshot wounds in the vicinity of the 600 block of North 5th Street.
Emergency responders rushed
Francisco to Cooper University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:42 p.m. The tragedy of the night was compounded when a second victim, 22-year-old Luis Delgado of Camden, was brought to the same hospital by a private vehicle. He too had sustained gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department have launched a joint investigation into the double homicide. Detectives are actively working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not released a motive for the killings, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The investigation remains active and ongoing as law enforcement appeals to the public for any information that may lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Francisco Benavides and Luis Delgado.
