In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Camden, New Jersey, tragedy befell 31-year-old Jahid Hudson. Gunfire erupted in the vicinity of the 700 block of Ferry Avenue, an event noted by both a 911 call and a ShotSpotter activation. It is believed that after being struck by the gunfire, Hudson desperately sought aid, making his way to the home of an acquaintance.
Responding to the reports, police officers arrived at a residence in the area of 8th and Jefferson streets at approximately 12:20 a.m. on May 27, 2015. Inside, they discovered Hudson lying on the living room floor, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to Cooper University Hospital.
Despite the efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the investigation into Hudson's death was active and ongoing. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the fatal shooting. Detectives were working to determine a motive behind the incident that claimed the life of the Camden man.
