In the early evening of March 4, 2025, a dispute at a basketball game in Severn, Maryland, escalated into a burst of gunfire that left two men dead, including 28-year-old Mack Samuel Galloway III. Galloway, a resident of Glen Burnie, was one of several individuals present at the basketball court in the 8100 block of Meade Village Road when the shooting occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m.
The other fatality was identified as 23-year-old Derrick Purcell Ahmad McDonald of Severn, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding officers found Galloway suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The incident also resulted in injuries to two other individuals. A 26-year-old male was struck by a metal fragment and taken to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. Another man, who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police shortly after the shooting, had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department took charge of the case, describing the shooting as a targeted and not a random act of violence. The investigation quickly focused on a vehicle that was seen leaving the area. Officers located this vehicle near Pioneer Drive and Jacobs Road, occupied by two males who were believed to have been involved in the incident. These two individuals, one of whom was the injured passenger, reportedly called 911 within minutes of the shooting to report their involvement and have been cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
