In the quiet community of Severn, Maryland, the evening of March 4, 2025, was shattered by an eruption of violence that claimed the life of 23-year-old Derrick Purcell Ahmad McDonald. The tragic events unfolded around 7:00 p.m. in the 8100 block of Meade Village Road, near a local basketball court where a game was being played. A dispute that began on the court escalated into an exchange of gunfire between several individuals, leading to a scene of chaos and bloodshed.
When Anne Arundel County Police officers arrived, they found Mr. McDonald suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite their immediate medical aid, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The shooting resulted in a devastating toll, with another man, 28-year-old Mack Samuel Galloway III of Glen Burnie, also losing his life. Mr. Galloway was transported to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The violence of that evening also left two other men wounded. One, a 26-year-old male, was injured by a metal fragment from the gunfire and taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The other, a passenger in a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident, was found with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and transported to a hospital. The driver of that vehicle was unharmed.
In the aftermath of the deadly altercation, homicide detectives launched an intensive investigation, treating the incident as a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence. Investigators collected numerous items of evidence from the crime scene and the involved vehicle, and have interviewed several witnesses. Two individuals who were in the vehicle that was stopped by police shortly after the shooting have been cooperating with the investigation. They had called 911 to report the incident and their involvement. As of the latest reports, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the double homicide. The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to piece together the events that led to the tragic deaths of Derrick Purcell Ahmad McDonald and Mack Samuel Galloway III.
