In the early moments of a Tuesday morning, on February 4, 2025, the life of 22-year-old EZell Hill, a male resident of Northeast, D.C., was tragically cut short. Just after midnight, at approximately 12:02 a.m., while diligently working a food delivery job on his scooter in the 3100 block of 16th Street Northwest, he was struck by multiple gunshots. Officers from the Third District, responding to the sound of gunfire, discovered him unconscious and not breathing at the scene.
Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Hill was pronounced dead.
The sudden violence left a family and community in mourning for a young man remembered as kindhearted and driven. His family described him as someone who wouldn't bother a soul and was honestly trying to make his own way. He had aspirations of enrolling in an IT job training program, a dream that would tragically go unfulfilled. The profound loss has left his mother heartbroken and his father and brother searching for answers as to why this happened.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department has launched a homicide investigation. Authorities have announced they are searching for a dark-colored Toyota sedan that may have been involved in the incident. As of now, a motive for the shooting has not been made public, and no arrests have been announced. The police department is urging anyone with information to come forward and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this senseless act.
