In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025, the life of 42-year-old Marcus Kelly of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Southeast, D.C. At approximately 3:28 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of Chaplin Street, Southeast.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, the man, identified as Marcus Kelly, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kelly, who was just days away from his 43rd birthday, was born in Tempe, Arizona, and was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia. He was described as a generous and determined individual with an unwavering commitment to his loved ones.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide. As of now, authorities have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for a motive behind the deadly incident.
In an effort to gather more information, the police are urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Marcus Kelly's death.
