Gregory Dean Gothard, a 54-year-old man, was last seen in San Mateo County, California on September 15, 2006. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, standing at 6'0" and weighing 185 pounds, with gray hair and green eyes. His nickname was Greg.
Three days after he was last seen, on September 18, 2006, Gothard's vehicle was discovered abandoned on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Reports from witnesses indicated that someone may have jumped from the bridge. This prompted a search of the San Francisco Bay by the U.S. Coast Guard. While Gothard's body was not located, searchers did recover one of his shoes and some of the contents of his wallet.
Investigations into his disappearance revealed that Gothard had been distressed over relationship issues with his girlfriend. Based on the discovery of his car and the witness statements, authorities believe that Gothard likely died by suicide. Despite the search efforts, his body has never been recovered. The Capitola Police Department is listed as the reporting agency for his case.
