In the late hours of a Friday night in Washington, D.C., violence erupted on a street in the Northwest quadrant of the city. On April 4, 2025, in the 700 block of Otis Place, Northwest, a 22-year-old man named Kalyl Young was shot. The report of gunfire brought officers from the Metropolitan Police Department to the scene at approximately 10:41 p.m. There they discovered Young suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services arrived quickly and transported the Northwest D.C.
resident to a local hospital. Medical personnel fought to save his life, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. The following day, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Kalyl Young succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the shooting as a homicide. As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding a possible motive or any potential suspects in the killing. Detectives from the Homicide Branch are canvassing the area for witnesses and searching for surveillance footage that might shed light on the events of that fatal Friday night. The department is asking for the public's help and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime. The investigation remains ongoing as they search for the gunman.
