Do you know who killed Eric Mercer in 2019? In the late afternoon of a November day in Washington, D.C., a shooting incident tragically cut short the life of 17-year-old Eric Mercer. On Friday, November 22, 2019, at approximately 3:11 pm, officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 4700 block of Benning Road, Southeast, following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Mercer, a resident of Northwest, D.C., suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and quickly transported the young man to a local hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Eric Mercer succumbed to his injuries four days later, on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. At the time of his death, Mercer was a student at Theodore Roosevelt High School.
The investigation into the homicide led detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch to identify a suspect. On Saturday, February 8, 2020, authorities arrested 21-year-old Kemonte Martin of Northeast, D.C. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with Mercer's death. The case remained under investigation following the arrest.
