On November 22, 2019, Eric Mercer, age 17, was shot in the 4700 block of Benning Road, SE, Washington, D.C., at approximately 3:11 p.m. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, but despite medical efforts, Mercer succumbed to his injuries four days later on November 26, 2019. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation and sought public assistance to help gather information about the incident.
