Kolton Shearer, an 18-year-old high school baseball player from Middleburg, Florida, tragically lost his life on July 10, 2016, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. The events leading to his death were part of a premeditated robbery orchestrated by Alexandra Schreffler and three other individuals. Schreffler, who was acquainted with Shearer, targeted him on Facebook, deeming him an "easy target" due to his known possession of drugs. She lured Shearer to a house in Green Cove Springs under the guise of friendship, where he was ambushed by Jordan Coleman, Taurean Johnson, and Ozell McNabb Jr. During the robbery, Shearer was shot and killed, while one of his friends was injured, and another escaped unharmed.
The investigation into Shearer's death led to the arrest of Schreffler, Coleman, Johnson, and McNabb. Schreffler initially faced charges of armed robbery and murder but later entered a plea deal in 2016, reducing her charges to armed robbery in exchange for her testimony against the other suspects. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Coleman, who played a significant role in the robbery, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 25-year prison sentence in July 2018. Johnson and McNabb also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in February 2019 and were each sentenced to more than 25 years in prison.
The court proceedings were emotionally charged, with Shearer's mother delivering a poignant statement during Schreffler's sentencing. She expressed her profound grief and held Schreffler primarily responsible for her son's death, emphasizing the betrayal of trust and the irreversible impact on her life.
