A summer morning in Washington, D.C. turned tragic on July 9, 2022. Amos Jones, a 33-year-old Black male, was in the 100 block of Atlantic Street, Southeast, when the sound of gunshots shattered the late morning calm at approximately 11:53 a.m. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District arrived at the scene, they found Mr. Jones and an adult female both suffering from gunshot wounds.
