A summer morning in Washington, D.C. turned tragic on July 9, 2022. Amos Jones, a 33-year-old Black male, was in the 100 block of Atlantic Street, Southeast, when the sound of gunshots shattered the late morning calm at approximately 11:53 a.m. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District arrived at the scene, they found Mr. Jones and an adult female both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services responded quickly, but Mr.
Jones's injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The female victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The incident left the community shaken and searching for answers.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department are actively investigating the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Amos Jones, and the police have not released any descriptions of potential suspects. The investigation remains open and ongoing.
