On the evening of September 7, 1976, Doris McKinley was enjoying a visit with friends at a residence in Denver's Five Points neighborhood, located on the 3000 block of Welton Street. The 34-year-old Black woman was inside the home, where music was playing and people were dancing.
Tragically, the gathering was shattered when an unknown individual fired a gunshot into the house from outside. Doris was struck by the bullet and collapsed immediately.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and she was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Doris McKinley succumbed to the gunshot wound she sustained and passed away. The case remains an unsolved homicide, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in her death. The Denver Police Department continues to seek information from the public regarding this cold case.
