In the early days of the new year in Selma, Alabama, a life was tragically cut short, marking the city's first homicide of 2025. David Lewis, a 34-year-old Black male from Huntsville, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, January 4, 2025. The incident unfolded in the area of Minter Avenue and Keller Alley, where Selma police officers were initially dispatched following reports of shots fired.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Lewis on the ground on Minter Avenue, suffering
from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center's emergency room for medical attention. Despite the efforts to save him, David Lewis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Selma Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to a swift arrest in the case. On Monday, January 6, 2025, after conducting interviews with witnesses, authorities took 31-year-old Jadarius Moore of Selma into custody. Moore has been charged with the murder of David Lewis and is being held in jail without bond, awaiting a pending hearing.
