In the late hours of a Saturday night in Selma, Alabama, a dispute at a barbecue would tragically escalate, leading to the death of 59-year-old Pollard Moultrie. On October 25, 2025, in the 100 block of Beech Creek Lane, Moultrie was shot and fatally wounded at an apartment complex.
According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 11:50 p.m.. Upon their arrival, they discovered Moultrie suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was initially transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the city's 10th homicide of 2025.
In the days that followed, Moultrie's family came forward with information about the events they believe led to his death. His brother-in-law, Maurice Pope, stated in an interview that the shooting stemmed from an argument that began at a barbecue. Pope claimed that Moultrie had refused to give another beer to a man who had already been drinking. According to Pope, this man later came to Moultrie's door with a gun. The family asserts they know the identity of the individual responsible for the shooting.
Despite the family's account, the Selma Police Department has not publicly named any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the case. At the time, detectives were reported to be interviewing witnesses and the investigation was considered ongoing.
