Stanley “Savon” Reese-Jones, a 32-year-old male, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 6, 2008, in the Edgemoor Gardens community just north of Wilmington, Delaware. Police and paramedics responded shortly after 1 a.m. to North Rodney Drive, where they found him on a footpath with a single gunshot wound to the upper body; he was pronounced dead at the scene. In those first hours, investigators canvassed the area and interviewed witnesses but announced no suspects.
As detectives pieced together what happened, accounts and ballistic evidence pointed to a robbery that turned fatal. In the weeks that followed, leads converged on a trio connected to the holdup that preceded the shooting. By September 2008, Keith Gibson—then 26—was arrested at his mother’s home and charged in connection with the killing, after witness interviews and analysis of shell casings helped tie him to the crime.
Two alleged accomplices emerged in the investigation: James Hinson and Kelly Gibbs. Court records later showed that Hinson entered a guilty plea to charges related to the death of Stanley Jones as part of an agreement requiring him to testify truthfully in the trials of the others. Gibbs’s case moved forward in Delaware Superior Court; contemporaneous reporting indicates he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a weapons offense in the Jones killing.
Gibson’s prosecution culminated in a 2010 Delaware conviction arising from the shooting, with public reporting describing the result as a manslaughter and firearm possession case that drew a years-long sentence. He was later paroled in 2020, long after the Edgemoor homicide that ended Reese-Jones’s life. Subsequent proceedings unrelated to the 2008 murder would place Gibson back in headlines years later, but for the killing on North Rodney Drive, arrests were made and pleas entered by the suspects identified in the original investigation.
