Tymere Bailey, a 25-year-old Black man from New Castle, Delaware, was killed on the evening of April 25, 2016, in the Surratte Park area of the Dunleith community. Some memorial and obituary records spell his first name “Tymeer,” but New Castle County police records identify him as Tymere Bailey.
At approximately 8:26 p.m., residents near the county parkland around Robinson Drive and Bethune Drive began calling 911 after hearing gunfire.
Witnesses also reported seeing several people running from the park. New Castle County police officers entered the parkland and found Bailey lying there with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He had died before help could save him and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later police summaries described Bailey as having suffered multiple injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. A subsequent cold-case notice associated the shooting with the Surratte Park community and listed the location as 456 Anderson Drive. That notice gave the response time as approximately 9:26 p.m., although the original police release issued immediately after the killing reported that officers were dispatched at approximately 8:26 p.m.
Detectives began a homicide investigation, canvassing the surrounding neighborhood and asking anyone who had seen the people fleeing the park or who knew what led to the gunfire to come forward. The initial release did not describe a weapon, disclose a possible motive or identify anyone believed to have confronted Bailey before the shooting. Police also did not publicly provide descriptions of the people seen running from the area.
Bailey left behind a daughter, Khloe, and a large family. His obituary identified him as the son of Tamra Bailey and Stanley Fayson Jr., the stepson of Ray Lloyd, and a brother in a family that included nine brothers and two sisters. Relatives and friends gathered for his funeral on May 6, 2016, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wilmington, followed by burial at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
No publicly identified suspect has been named in Bailey's killing, and available official records do not report an arrest, criminal charge, trial or conviction connected to the case. New Castle County police continue to classify the homicide as an open cold case. In an April 25, 2026 appeal marking ten years since the shooting, investigators again asked the public for information, indicating that the person or people responsible had still not been brought to justice. Police said the department's Criminal Investigations Unit and Cold Case Unit remained involved and emphasized that Bailey and his family had not been forgotten.
