Robert Edward Gilroy Jr., an 18-year-old male, tragically lost his life on September 15, 1977, in Norwood Park Township, Cook County, Illinois. His remains were later identified through dental records, and he was laid to rest at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
Gilroy was one of the victims of the notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy, who preyed upon teenage boys and young men in and around Chicago between 1972 and 1978.
Gacy, known as the 'Killer Clown,' lured his victims under various pretenses before subjecting them to horrific acts of violence, including torture and strangulation. Many of his victims were buried in the crawl space beneath his home, while others were discarded in the Des Plaines River.
Following Gacy's arrest on December 21, 1978, authorities uncovered the remains of multiple victims, including Gilroy. Gacy was convicted of 33 murders and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection in Illinois on May 10, 1994. The case remains one of the most infamous serial murder investigations in American history, with ongoing efforts to identify several of Gacy's unidentified victims.
