On July 3, 2014, Destiny Davila, a 13-year-old Hispanic girl from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost her life in a horrific double murder-suicide. Destiny and her mother, Irma Davila, 41, were found dead in their home, and the suspect, Hector Davila, Destiny's estranged father and Irma's husband, was also found deceased. According to police reports, Hector Davila killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life.
The incident occurred at the Davila family home on Globe Avenue.
When police responded to a welfare check request, they observed blood throughout the house and discovered Hector Davila lying facedown on top of Irma Davila, with a handgun nearby. Destiny was found dead against a bathroom wall. Preliminary observations from the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office indicated that both Irma and Destiny died from blunt force trauma and/or gunshot wounds to the head.
Hector Davila, 44, had been estranged from his wife Irma, and the couple had been going through marital issues. Friends of Irma mentioned that she had recently asked for a divorce, but agreed to visit Hector for dinner on the night of the incident. The tragic event shocked the community, and a vigil was held by friends and family to remember Destiny and her mother.
No arrests or further litigations were pursued as the incident was determined to be a murder-suicide. The case was closed with the conclusion that Hector Davila was responsible for the deaths of his wife and daughter before taking his own life.
