In the cold of a Milwaukee evening on February 8, 2022, the life of Michael Jones, a 26-year-old Black man with a burgeoning music career, was brought to an abrupt and violent end. Jones, known in the local music scene as "414 Lil Moe," was sitting alone in his black Cadillac SUV near the intersection of 28th and Melvina streets shortly after 9:30 p.m. when the attack occurred.
His friends and family remember him as a loving person who was passionate about football and dedicated to his music, with one of his songs, "Grateful," ironically foretelling a future he would never get to experience.
The assault was sudden and brutal. Two suspects reportedly ran up to Jones's vehicle and fired multiple shots inside before fleeing the scene on foot. Investigators were left trying to piece together why Jones was in that particular area, as it was not where he lived. Authorities have stated that the attack did not appear to be provoked by Jones and that they do not believe drugs were a factor in the shooting. The senselessness of the act left his loved ones grappling for answers, describing the loss as a "shot to the gut."
