Joyce Cassandra Medina, a 27-year-old Hispanic woman, was tragically killed on March 6, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. She was an aspiring bilingual teacher and a student at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, where she was an active member of the Bilingual Education Student Organization . Joyce was known for her positive attitude and her love for her rescue dog, Caleb.
She had just arrived home after watching a San Antonio Spurs game when the incident occurred.
The shooting happened quickly and unexpectedly. Joyce's brother, Jesse, answered the door when there was a knock, and multiple shots were fired inside the house. Jesse was shot several times but survived, while Joyce was hit by a stray bullet in the neck and died shortly after at a nearby hospital. The suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored four-door extended cab truck, and police believe there were at least three individuals involved in the shooting.
Despite extensive investigations, no suspects have been arrested, and the case remains unsolved. The San Antonio Police Department, along with federal agents, has been actively searching for the perpetrators. Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest, and additional anonymous donations have increased the reward to $10,000.
