Hector Daniel Diaz, a 27-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on November 22, 2015, in Houston, Texas. Diaz, who was originally from Honduras, had been living in the United States as a lawful immigrant and worked as a construction worker. His death was the result of a brutal attack by members of the MS-13 gang, a notorious criminal organization with a significant presence in Houston.
On the night of his death, Diaz was shot multiple times by Jonathan Steven Guevara and
Giovanni Antonio Herrera, both members of MS-13. The incident occurred after Diaz exited a sedan on Harwin Drive in southwest Houston. He was shot eight times, including once in the back of the head. Prosecutors noted that there was no evidence Diaz had any prior interactions with his killers.
Following the attack, the Houston Police Department swiftly launched an investigation. Within days, they arrested three suspects: Jonathan Steven Guevara, Giovanni Antonio Herrera, and Anibal Antonio Guevara . The suspects were charged with murder and taken into custody. The investigation revealed that the attack was an attempt by the suspects to gain higher ranks within the MS-13 gang.
In the subsequent legal proceedings, Jonathan Steven Guevara was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Herrera pleaded guilty and awaited sentencing, while the getaway driver, Anibal Antonio Guevara, was also awaiting trial.
