On September 14, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in northeast Houston when a drive-by shooting at a block party resulted in the death of 23-year-old Breon Stuard, along with two other individuals, and left eight others injured. The event took place around 2:25 a.m. in the 4900 block of Laura Koppe Road, where a large crowd had gathered for a block party.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), a white pickup truck approached the gathering, and occupants opened fire into the crowd before fleeing the scene.
The victims who lost their lives were identified as 23-year-old Breon Stuard, 24-year-old Jarvis Faultry, and 24-year-old Marlon Jackson. The injured included seven men, aged between 22 and 49, and a 43-year-old woman; all were transported to local hospitals and were expected to survive. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with attendees scrambling for cover amid the gunfire. Investigators recovered two different types of shell casings at the scene, suggesting the involvement of multiple shooters.
In the ensuing investigation, HPD utilized surveillance footage and license plate recognition technology to trace the vehicle involved to a rental car agency. The vehicle had been returned with bullet holes and additional damage shortly after the shooting. This lead, along with social media analysis, enabled investigators to identify three suspects: 21-year-old Javion Tyrus Noel, 20-year-old Jakalyn Willis, and 20-year-old Markielo Jamal Reynolds. All three were charged with capital murder for their alleged roles in the shooting. At the time of their charges, Noel was in custody in Harris County on unrelated charges, while Willis and Reynolds were detained in Los Angeles, California, also on unrelated charges.
Despite these arrests, authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the attack. The investigation remains active, with HPD urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The community continues to mourn the loss of the young lives taken in this senseless act of violence, as law enforcement works diligently to bring all responsible parties to justice.
