On May 6, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., 28-year-old Damien Harris was fatally shot in the parking lot at 945 West Little York Road in Houston, Texas. Responding officers from the Houston Police Department (HPD) found Harris unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
Investigations revealed that Harris had been involved in an argument earlier that day with an individual who later returned and shot him multiple times before fleeing in a vehicle. On May 7, HPD released surveillance photos of the suspect and the vehicle to the public, seeking assistance in identifying the perpetrator.
Subsequent inquiries identified 25-year-old Deleon Delvontaye Davis as the suspect. A murder charge was filed against him on May 29, 2024. Davis remained at large until July 2, when members of the HPD North Patrol Division Tactical Unit apprehended him without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with murder in the 180th State District Court.
Damien Harris was remembered as a loving and caring individual, known for his dedication to family and community. Born on October 12, 1995, he was an active mentor in his neighborhood and served in the U.S. Army's 198th Infantry Brigade. His greatest joy was being a father to his children, Kyrin and London.
