Jesus Aviles Macedo, a 44-year-old Hispanic man, tragically died on June 24, 2018, in Houston, Texas. He was shot inside the "La Oficina" bar located at 11573 South Wilcrest Drive by another patron, Jose Luis Aviles, who was 23 years old at the time. Macedo died at the scene of the incident.
Following the shooting, Jose Luis Aviles was charged with murder in the 208th State District Court.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Aviles was also involved in a previous shooting incident on August 7, 2016, where he fired shots at a security guard but did not hit him. Aviles was charged with aggravated assault of a security officer for his role in that incident.
The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division and Major Assaults & Family Violence Division detectives conducted the investigation. Surveillance video from the bar and the previous incident helped in identifying and charging Aviles. The case was handled by Sergeant M. Holbrook, Detective J. Roscoe, and Detective R. Rivera.
The incident and subsequent investigation highlight the serious consequences of violent altercations and the importance of swift legal action in such cases. The community was urged to come forward with any information regarding Aviles' whereabouts to assist in the ongoing investigation.
