Isaac Christopher Morey, a 19-year-old male from Austin, Texas, tragically passed away on April 17, 2018. He was born on October 15, 1998, to Jina Martinez in Austin, Texas. Isaac was a recent graduate of David Crockett High School and was preparing for the Air Force entry exams. He was known for his love of producing music, skateboarding, and spending time with family and friends. Isaac was remembered for his infectious smile, wittiness, and Christian Slateresque looks. His friends knew him as "yungslat3r," but to his grandmother, he was always "Papas".
Isaac's death was the result of a drug deal gone wrong. On the night of his death, Isaac went to an apartment complex off East William Cannon Drive near Interstate 35 to sell marijuana. He was ambushed by three teenagers—Jalen Rey Veliz, Cesar Carlos, and Tommy Lee Potter—who demanded the drugs and money. During the altercation, Jalen Veliz shot Isaac in the chest with a rifle, leading to his death. The incident was part of a larger investigation into a drug deal that turned deadly.
Following Isaac's death, the Austin Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the three teenagers involved. Jalen Veliz was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to 24 years in prison. Cesar Carlos and Tommy Lee Potter were also charged with capital murder, and each faced significant bond amounts. The case highlighted the dangers associated with drug deals and the severe consequences of such criminal activities.
Isaac Christopher Morey's death left a profound impact on his family, friends, and the community. He was survived by his mother Jina Martinez, grandmother Anita Martinez, and his four sisters—Taylor Saige Morey, Payton Avery Morey, Trinity Claire Morey, and Ivy Rayly Isabelle Gatica. His memory lives on through the love and support of those who knew him.
