Alejandro Dominique Austin, a 28-year-old male, passed away on August 4, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. Alejandro was known for his love of landscaping, skateboarding, gaming, music, and spending time with his children and family. He is survived by his parents, Karl Austin and Elizabeth Austin, and his siblings Avery, Elijah, Edward, Azalea, Savannah, and Breanna.
Alejandro also leaves behind his grandparents, Lovetta Austin and Julia Reyes, and his children, Annaisabella, Luv Moddy Austin, and Alejandro D. Austin Jr.
In a separate incident, Edgar Alejandro Barahona, a 22-year-old male, was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a 2022 shooting in North Austin that left two people dead. Barahona was found guilty of two counts of murder in connection to the shooting on January 23, 2022. The victims, identified as 26-year-old Juan Carlos Villatoro and 28-year-old Heliodoro Arias Flores, were both male. Villatoro was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Arias Flores was transported to a local hospital where he died from his wounds approximately five hours later. Barahona was arrested on January 24, 2022, and was convicted by a Travis County jury on May 13, 2024. He was sentenced to 35 years for each murder count, to be served concurrently.
The shooting occurred at the Ojos Locos restaurant bar located on the southbound I-35 service road just south of the Hwy 183 intersection. Around 10:30 p.m., one of the victims called 9-1-1 and said they had been shot. Officers and EMS medics found the two men lying in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds. Witness testimony led the Austin Police Department to a Facebook profile of the suspected shooter, identified as Edgar Alejandro Barahona. The Travis County District Attorney's Office expressed gratitude to the dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold Barahona accountable and seek justice for the victims.
