Fabian Gutierrez, a 23-year-old Hispanic male, tragically died on October 8, 2017, in Austin, Texas. He was involved in an altercation with two other men in the parking lot of an apartment complex on East Stassney Lane. Witnesses reported seeing the altercation and noted that the two men fled the scene in a red Dodge Ram diesel truck after stabbing Gutierrez. EMS transported Gutierrez to St.
David's South Austin Medical Clinic, where he succumbed to his injuries just before 10 p.m.
Following the incident, Austin police launched an investigation and impounded the truck found a few hours later. On October 13, 2017, Ricardo Santos, a 34-year-old man, was arrested in Big Wells, Texas, by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on a warrant for Gutierrez's murder. Santos was captured after surveillance footage from a convenience store showed him entering a late-model white SUV. He was booked into the Dimmitt County Jail and awaited extradition back to Travis County. Bond was set at $1 million.
The investigation revealed that Santos may have fled towards the Mexican border but was eventually apprehended. The motive behind the murder was believed to involve a woman. The case drew significant attention from local law enforcement and the community, as efforts were made to gather more information and bring justice for Fabian Gutierrez.
