Chester Ray Sauls, a 36-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 16, 2022, in Austin, Texas. The incident occurred in the late morning in Austin's downtown entertainment district, specifically at the intersection of East Sixth Street and Sabine Street. Sauls was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Austin Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide, which they believed to be an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the public.
The primary suspect in the case was identified as Glenn Donyale Wilson, a 29-year-old male. Surveillance footage from the incident showed Wilson in the vicinity of the shooting, accompanied by two other individuals. The footage captured Wilson making an exchange with one of the other subjects immediately after the shooting, which appeared to involve a small caliber handgun. Despite the evidence, no firearms were recovered from the scene, although two live rounds and one fired cartridge casing were found.
